Colonel Jon Michael Lockey, USA
Jon Michael Lockey was born April 28, 1963 in Hollywood California to Harold William and Patricia Ann Lockey. Jon attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and was in the class of 1985. He received his commission in the Army as a Field Artillery officer. He also attended Monterey Language Institute to study Italian, where he met his wife, Dorothea Jean Lockey. In August of 1987, they were married. After receiving a Master's Degree from New Mexico State University in Industrial Engineering, he established residence in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Jon attended Command and General Staff School in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and then War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Col Lockey deployed to Iraq as chief of the Biometrics Cell for Multinational Corps-Iraq after being promoted to colonel on February 1, 2007. He served with a unit that dealt with biometrics -- the science of identifying individuals by DNA, fingerprints, retinal patterns or other characteristics. After an insurgent bombing, his team would gather forensic evidence to identify terrorists who might have also left clues at other attack scenes. On July 6, 2007, Col Jon Michael Lockey was found dead in bed inside his trailer.
He was 44 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
