Lieutenant Colonel William Frank Boutz '30
William Frank Boutz was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada on May 1, 1906 to Frank and Maude Boutz. Of the first nine children born to Frank and Maude, he was the sole son. At the age of 14 his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Las Cruces. He entered NMAMC in 1926 and made a name for himself with his quiet demeanor and football play. In May 1931 he graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned into the US Army. He was called to service immediately. Early in his military career he served with the Eighth Army Corps in Arizona. Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor he was recalled to active duty and assigned to the faculty of the US Infantry School at Fort Benning Georgia. From there he was transferred to the China Burma India Theater where he served as liaison officer between Chinese and US forces. At the close of the war he was assigned to Regensburg Germany before being transferred to Wheeling West Virginia in October 1949 to serve as Senior Instructor of the Northern West Virginia Area Reserve Officers. On January 2, 1951 at 3:45 pm he died at his desk in the Reserve Corps Armory in Thedah Place WV from a sudden heart attack. He was survived by his wife Hassel Boutz and their three children, Celia, Robert and Ronald. He is buried at Memorial Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
