Sergeant Francis W Cade
Francis W Cade was born in Las Cruces, NM on September 21, 1924 to Mr. and Mrs. Baylus Cade. After graduating from Las Cruces HS, he enrolled at NMAMC in the fall of 1941 and completed two years of school before enlisting in the US Army. He was selected for the ASTP program in Oklahoma before being shipped to England in the fall of 1944. He was in England only a few weeks when the German counteroffensive began. He was subsequently rushed into battle as part of the 393rd Infantry Regiment, 99th Infantry Division and fought through the Battle of the Bulge. It was during this time that he was promoted to Sergeant. On March 17, 1945 Sgt. Francis W Cade was killed in action in pushing to expand the Remagen bridgehead. He is buried at the Las Cruces Masonic Cemetery. He was 20 years old at the time of his death.
